Cortisol

A steroid hormone that is produced by your 2 adrenal glands, which sit on top of each kidney. When you are stressed, increased cortisol is released into your bloodstream.

Other factors that can affect cortisol levels include: 

  • Training level: cortisol response may be lower after exercise training program. 
  • Nutritional status: What you eat can affect cortisol levels.
  • Stress level: Being under a lot of stress can make cortisol issues worse. 
  • Cold showers: Shocking your body with cold showers can increase cortisol levels. 
Foods that can help reduce cortisol levels include: Dark chocolate, Holy basil, Fish, especially salmon, Broccoli, and Oranges
